Our History
The story of the Middlesex Agility Club (MAC) is one of passion, community, and a shared love for the sport of dog agility. From humble backyard beginnings to hosting major regional events, MAC has grown alongside the sport itself. Here’s a look back at some of the key moments in our journey:

The Early Days of Agility
-
March 1978 – The first widely documented appearance of dog agility took place at the Crufts Dog Show in the UK, captivating audiences and inspiring the sport we know today.
-
April 1988 – Dog agility made its way to Canada, thanks to Art Newman of North Gower, Ontario, who introduced the sport nationwide.

The Birth of MAC
-
May 1991 – Middlesex Agility Club (MAC) was founded by Dorinda Desmet and a friend in her parents’ backyard in Komoka, Ontario. The name Middlesex Agility Club was officially chosen that summer.
-
June 1993 – MAC held its first fun match to raise funds and gain experience for future trials. That same month, the club hosted an agility seminar with Darlene Woz of Canine Combustion, attracting participants from across Southwestern Ontario for an inspiring weekend of learning and camaraderie.
-
June 1994 – MAC held its first official trial, limited to 75 entries and totaling 209 runs — a major milestone for the club.
-
September 1994 – MAC hosted a logo design contest, with Julie Clark’s design chosen as the club’s first official logo.

Growth and Community Spirit
-
March 1995 – MAC held its first indoor trial at Kilbyrne Farms near Thorndale.
-
November 1997 – MAC joined the Santa Claus Parade with the theme “Here Comes Santa Paws.” The float, decorated with a Christmas tree adorned in dog biscuits and toys, won Most Original Float and delighted parade-goers with its festive “rein dogs.”

Moving Forward
-
April 1998 – MAC relocated to Birnleigh Farm in Birr, Ontario.
-
February 2000 – The club moved to Cantercrest Farm.
-
February 2002 – Another move took MAC to Fleetwood Farms.
-
July 2015 – MAC found its current home at Con Brio, now known as Tepla Farms.

A New Era
-
January 2023 – Members voted on a new logo, modernizing MAC’s image while honoring its long history.
-
June 2026 – MAC is proud to host the All Ontario Regionals at the Dorchester Fairgrounds, marking another exciting chapter in the club’s legacy.
